Life Sentence for South Florida Dentist in FSU Professor Murder-for-Hire Case

Tallahassee, Florida - In a recent court ruling, a South Florida dentist, Charlie Adelson, aged 47, received a life sentence for the murder of his former brother-in-law, Dan Markel, a renowned Florida State University professor. This sentence followed a highly publicized and emotionally charged custody dispute.

Last month, Adelson was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 fatal shooting of Markel, which occurred in Markel’s car outside his Tallahassee residence. The swift decision, reached by jurors in just three hours, came after prosecutors argued that Adelson paid for Markel’s assassination.

During his sentencing, Adelson asserted his innocence despite receiving an additional 30-year sentence for the lesser charges.

American Comedian Kidnapped and Murdered in Columbia

Medellin, Columbia - An American comedian and activist, was tragically murdered in Medellín, Colombia, following his attendance at a Karol G concert. Prosecutors told reporters that Tou Ger Xiong, 50, arrived in Medellin on Nov 29. He went to meet a friend in the city on Dec. 10. Hours later; he called a friend in the United States to tell him that he was kidnapped and his captors demanded a $2000 ransom to free him.

December 15, 1900 - The Flannan Isle Mystery

A ship passing the Flannan Isle lighthouse in Scotland noted that the light was not working during bad weather on Dec. 15, 1900. Once in port, the ship’s captain relayed this information to the Northern Lighthouse Board. Due to raging seas, the relief vessel ordered to go to Flannan Isle could not get there until Dec. 26. Once it arrived, the crew found the three men assigned to work the lighthouse, James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald McArthur, were gone.
